21 long years, some tough times but finally we see the celtics back in the nba finals…….against the old enemy LA Lakers. This season they were the best 2 teams, in NBA history they are the best 2 teams, this is a clash of the Titans. It all starts on June 5th and I am pumped pumped pumped………it is a 2-3-2format so the celtics need to start strong and steal in LA……in 3 weeks I hope to be celebrating another banner in the Garden…..WOO HOO!

on a week of vacation/holiday and it is the middle of the night……am totally wired as it is game 6 of the conference finals, celtics v pistons. I watched it free online 2 nights back and watching game 6 now………being 5 hours ahead means that I will be tired as dawn breaks. Am I bothered? No way, this is history!

Jonny has just asked a great question in his latest post that is well worth taking time to consider. In our youthwork, do we ever consider the sustainability of our projects? If they have short term sustainability, what lengths will we go to in order to maintain a longer input?
One of my personal frustrations in youthwork, particularly in raising money, is that it is not always difficult to raise money for start up of new ideas but the pressures come from long term sustainability when people do not have the adrenaline rush of “the new thing”. It is not just finances but also in terms of people and their involvement.
In his post Jonny mentions a few people who have been creative in their attempts to raise the necessary to keep the dream alive. Their creativity is also a sacrifice for some…..I trust they see fruit for their labour.

Yesterday, I was presenting the work of our charity in a local Church and 12 minutes was my allotted time although experience had told me longer was needed. My son (8 years) came with me and at the end of the presentation he handed me a piece of paper as I sat down. This is what it said:
“Dear Daddy
You went on talking for 15 minutes and I was getting very bored, so I decided to write you a little note. YOU ARE BORING.
from your son

xxxxxxxxxxx“
He spent the next 30 minutes giggling away to himself.

I have just completed another letter to the Inland Revenue with regard to my 06-07 tax returns. All my income is taxed at source and so it was with some surprise that I received a tax bill for another £1500. Months later it has risen to £2200 as the amendments have not worked. After many phonecalls (the people are very polite) and letters I am hoping that this latest amendment resolves the problem.
It appears that the source of my problems is moving jobs part way through a tax year and being declassified from a “minister of religion” to a standard tax payer. Let’s hope this is the end of the problems!!

Well we are well into the 2nd round of the playoffs and all is going to plan…..the top seeds are all doing the business and it looks like some tough plays before we see a Celtics v Lakers rematch in the NBA finals……still a fair amount to do but looking good……who knows, we may also have a Pistons v Celtics Conference matchup first……just like 20 years ago…….can history repeat?

today was a big day at the office……..the start of changing over our email systems so that we stop using exchange and going on to a web based system. Much of the initial work has been fairly easy to manage but there are one or two things that have taken far more time than necessary……..the hope is that these changes may save a couple of weeks lost time each year….it is worth it!!
