memories July 31, 2008

In talking to different people we have so many different perceptions of things, particularly things that happened some time ago.  There is a quaint perception of the way “Old England” operated and how wonderful, marvellous it was back in the old days.

Looking back on my own life, there are periods where there were times of great joy and also times of sadness.  All of them have helped mould me in to the person I am today.  The events of this year will do the same.  It is easy to look back with fondness and get bleary eyed over things that were special.  The good news is that as people we have the opportunity to move forward and await the new things that will be the memory makers for the future.  My dream is to look back at this period of my life with the same joy that I can review the last 30 odd years and say…..”They were good days”

what I want and what I need…… July 28, 2008

I love the look of the new i-phone and in honesty WANT one.  Why?  Well it is cool, neat, trendy, has oodles of tools, applications and functions.  All this justifies why one should be in my pocket.  Or does it?

My current phone was chosen because it does the job well – it is a Nokia 6300 and works fine.  My previous phone had bags of functions but they were rarely used and the phone sucked as a result.

So why would the iphone alter my previous trend of thought?  Put simply…..greed, I want the best so that I can boast and brag.  I have no issues with others that have them….this is my personal issue and it drives me mad.  I do not want to be greedy, jealous and in need of prosperity – yet in truth I still WANT the latest gadgets and best of the new thing.  I will resist the urge to splurge (cos I have no spare cash, probably!) but my mind still has a lurking green monster – if only it could be crushed.

Dave Walker has been forced to take down a number of posts due to a threat of legal action.  After reading the complete set of posts here, it seems a little over the top to threaten legal action.

Apparently a few bloggers, such as mad priest,  are now pasting the full scripts on their blogs as acts of solidarity……Dave, you have friends ;-)

a while back I blogged about jeans and their move from an item of rebellion to one of acceptance.  On a similar theme Creative Think asks about what we “demonize”.  A thought provoking post.

me: “I have a £29 charge on my credit card statement but no record of the payment.”

Sentinel: “that is you annual protection payment”

me: “I have never paid sentinel £29 in my life!

Sentinel: “You have been a member since 2000″

after a long discussion it appears that it is a change of name and a significant change in price…..

me: “so how has the annual protection risen from £12 to £29?

Sentinel: “You have graduated to the new plan!

Wow, graduating to a higher plan…… ;-) – well the protection just got cancelled!

Has anyone had any thoughts on this? Anyone been impacted already? would be interested to know if people have.

illegal? seriously? humbug! July 21, 2008

found this news item most interesting. In a city that loves cctv it was even more intriguing. Reality is that it is not illegal but there is need for clarity as people are becoming more and more confused of the rights and wrongs of photography. There are many discussions on flickr that show it is a worldwide phenomenon.

update: the Home Office have apparently issued a statement saying that it is not illegal to take photographs in a public place, as long as you are not committing a nuisance (via bbc)
