Just ordered a few maps from TFL that help work out decent cycle routes in London.  I hope they are as useful as they appear.  If you live in London and want to cycle more they appear to be a useful guide.

The ones to tear down are usually the ones that cease to offer any purpose.
Sometimes it is easier for people to tear down and rebuild the old when actually the greater benefit would be restoration.
When should we rebuild and when should we restore? A question that I need to ask myself more often.

These words from Len at NextReformation challenged me:

“Simply put, our chief aim is not to connect people to God, each other, and the world, but to build an organization that does so. The distinction is subtle but significant.

“Building an organization is an intoxicating substitute for being a church, because it allows us to work toward being a church without really being a church…”

Was chatting to a few folk over the weekend and was surprised at the common theme that occurred through the conversations.  The light of faith, although dim, was not snuffed out.  Whatever may happen, whatever hits you hard, keep the flame lit and even when it feels like faith is a dying ember there is always hope that it may burn strong once again.

so many emotions September 12, 2008

This morning I am sitting at my desk and am blazing with anger. Not for myself, I hasten to add, but on behalf of a young lad that saw the wrong end of a “joke” that was badly thought through.

Whilst stood at the bus stop, I was watching a young lad (aged 10), from my son’s school, riding his bike on the way to school. He has just started making his own way and this was the first time that I had seen him without his mother following in the distance. He stopped very carefully to cross a busy main road when an egg hurtled into his face from a passing car. There was a cheer from the car as it sped off whilst the young lad screamed in pain his face covered in the broken egg and some small blood stains. The poor lad was in shock and as I tried to help him and was scared as he could not see me through the mess and the tears. Another parent came to help – she had heard the cheer from the car – and took the poor lad up to school.

We have all done silly things in our time – and I am the worst – but we sometimes it is easy to forget the pain, hurt and potential damage that these things can do. It is my desire that this young lad will bounce back and once again make his own way to school, it is my desire that his mum will let him, it is my desire that the lads who were responsible may make amends.

Meanwhile, my anger is subsiding……

update:  the lad has been to the hospital and has bruising.  he will be ok.  The incident has been reported to the police so they are now engaged with it.

So the end of the world has been predicted by some as the CERN has its latest experiment on the 10th September.  It is an experiment that hopes to find out more on Big Bang Theory and see if they can further investigate the beginnings of the world.

It is a novel experiment that intrigues me as I have visited the place where the experiment is happening and have spent some time in an apartment that sits above the huge circular testing chamber.  Unlike the doomsayers, I have no fear that we will be swallowed up in a new black hole (but wouldn’t the journey be fun!) but it does interest me to hear about what is learned through the process.  This scientific laboratory has done much to enable the technological age to develop – they helped with email and internet formation – and so I am sure more will be gleaned from their latest offering.  I do hope to post again…..but the end of the world is nigh! LOL

That is the place that I currently find myself. Today is the start of all the new programmes at the place where I work and the enthusiasm and excitement is great to see. Usually this is one that provides a great buzz but, for now at least, I take a back seat as in a few weeks time I will have gone. Effectively, we are travelling different directions, there are no maps or manuals on the way to navigate…..you just have to walk the path. Today the path seems very lonely.

this is one of my favourite applications at the moment. Been excellent for looking at pictures on flickr. If you have firefox and browse flickr it is well worth the download.
